Learn about the importance of taking your medication as prescribed

Let's take a minute to talk about the importance of taking your medicine exactly as your doctor has prescribed.

There are many medications available that can help us live healthier lives. Some help us avoid serious problems, like heart attacks or strokes. Some help us feel better, mentally or physically. And, some help us live longer, by curing our conditions, or by keeping them under control.

Your doctor has made a careful decision to prescribe a medication that can help your condition. But, the medication can only help if you fill the prescription, and take it exactly the way your doctor tells you to. If you don't do both of these, you will not be able to achieve the desired outcome.

There are many reasons why people choose not to take their medication exactly as prescribed.

  • Maybe you forgot to take it, or you can't afford to buy it.
  • Perhaps you are having an unpleasant side effect, or you do not notice any effects at all.
  • You may not be convinced it will help, or, you worry that it may be harmful.
  • Maybe you are uncomfortable swallowing a pill, giving yourself a shot, or using an inhaler.

All of these reasons, and others too, are understandable.

The good news is that you have a support team! Your doctor, nurse, pharmacist and health plan can help you find ways to get your medication, and to take it without any concerns. We all share the same goal — to make sure your medication helps you live a healthier life. Call any of us today and together we can help!
